Blog 013 – So What Do You Get A Girl Who Has Everything?

She’s sleek with sexy curves. When she’s all gussied up…smoking hot! She’s strong and adventurous but patient and steadfast.

Often times when I leave for a short trip I turn around and just look at her. Quietly being beautiful. Full-figured and beautiful – not one of those dainty little things you might accidentally break just out having a little fun. I also like a girl who’s strong – none of those frail little things that can’t handle a little outdoor activity, but she can still turn heads when we’re out for the evening. I love to travel and see new places. So if she is going to be my one and only she has got to love throwing off the lines and going to play, if you know what I mean. I like a woman who can keep me warm at night but when it’s hot and steamy I want her as cold as ice…what???

So to answer the question I posed…What do you get a girl who has it all? An Ice Maker, of course. Some of you can’t figure out if I am talking about my wife or my boat. Hmmm.

Ice cold and refreshing!

Ice cold and refreshing!

When we were shopping for our last boat, Liana and I made a list of all of the things we needed, wanted and didn’t want in a cruising boat. Our must have list contained things like strong rigging and hull, air conditioning and heat, dingy davits, a strong diesel and two heads with showers to name just a few. But what topped my list was no ugly duckling. I wanted our next boat to be as pretty as my wife. I wanted my heart to skip a beat when I saw her after being away a while. As we left in the dingy I wanted to be able to stop and gaze over my shoulder and say, “Wow, she sure is a pretty boat.” I know looks aren’t everything but it was a big part of what I wanted.

Liana as usual was more practical with her list. She wanted a user-friendly galley with lots of storage space, good refrigeration and large countertops to prepare meals for a crew. Her must have list also included lots of natural light in the salon. Very high on her list. We both knew the second we found her that this was the one for us. Any of you who know my wife know she is frugal. Wasting money is in my job description not hers. But a little less known is the fact that every house we have ever owned she found. Most times I was out to sea or traveling for work and she would do everything. I would just show up and sign papers and trust her judgement. Each and every home and property have been good investments with good returns. She has an eye for a good deal when she see’s one. That’s why she got me!

Silhouette is no different. The moment she laid eyes on her Liana sent me an email, it just read, “I found our new boat!” She was exactly right. As usual she did everything, I just showed up to sign the papers. So I have my one and Onley for a lot of very good reasons. I am referring to Liana with that last statement.

Silhouette had everything it would seem, except an ice maker. Making ice in the freezer on a boat that is rolling all the time just leaves water all over the bottom of the freezer and getting those big frosty pieces into your glass are disappointing to say the least. In hot weather it’s impossible to keep up with the demand for ice. So we looked for an ice maker. The first question was – were would we put it. We hated to lose counter space and to put it in a locker did not make sense. So we decided a trade was in order.

We decided to trade a dishwasher for one great big built-in ice maker. One that is hidden under the counter and at the push of a button shows up with 26 lbs of ice a day! We had not used the dishwasher more than twice since we bought Silhouette. Liana kept saying it wasn’t practical. She always washed dishes by hand as it was less trouble. So it was pretty much just taking up space.

As I am writing this I have been home alone for a week. Liana flew to San Diego to visit and care for her Mom and to give her sister a well deserved break. That means I have to do the dishes – I hate doing dishes, but it only takes a few minutes. Today I installed our new ice maker. When you come to visit you can hear a tinkle in every glass to refresh whatever beverage you bring. May God bless you and keep you refreshed.

If you enjoy reading our blogs let us know, we will do our best to give you a few minutes a week to laugh and wonder was Steve talking about his wife or the boat?
