Blog 025 – In the Wake of Hurricane Matthew

Thanks to all of our friends and family who kept us and everyone else along the coast in prayers. Last night we saw the worst of what was left of Hurricane Matthew. Still a category 1 as it swept by us, we saw relentless wind and rain that came in heavy sheets for hours. We watched the wind come full circle. It started blowing towards us out of the northeast and ringing the water out of our dock lines with each strong gust. Multiple tornado warnings were issued over our phones throughout the night. The wind eventually came from the west and pinned Silhouette to the dock and the rocking and rolling finally began to settle down. Liana slept through the night, I was not quite so lucky. I listened all night long to the sounds of the storm incase I needed to “do” something. At 6:25 am this morning our phones went off again with a flash flood warning (ok, we personally weren’t too concerned with this one). At first light we went out to survey the damage. To our happy surprise everything is fine. Everyone in our Marina fared very well. But two of the thee town docks were destroyed and few boats sustained minor damage. This morning, the wind is still gusting to 30-40 mph but that is nothing compared to what we experienced throughout the night. Praise God for his protection in the storm.

The worst of the storm was after dark so this short video was before the height of the storm.
